About Paul Quayle
TESTING TESTING
I was born in Liverpool, and attended the same schools as John Lennon. After graduating from University of Reading in 1985 with a degree in Human Geography I wanted to actually experience first-hand the world I had studied. I had always had a love for travelling and a passion for photography and I combined these with a sense of adventure when I packed my backpack and flew to Bombay without knowing anyone there and without a guidebook. After having my senses assaulted and enjoying it, I spent 18 months in Australia before arriving in Japan. Initially I intended to stay in Japan for a few months but I made Hiroshima my home and photo base for ten years.I travelled throughout Asia working as a photojournalist and wrote and published "Hiroshima Calling" a photo book with 191 photos documening the city and its people, with a special focus on Peace Park.
My work has been featured in many newspapers and magazines, including: Japan Airlines in-flight magazine, Korean Airlines in-flight magazine,National Geographic Traveler, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle, Asiaweek, Evening Standard, Financial Times, Marie Claire, Geographical, Mail on Sunday, The Sunday Times, Rough Guides, The Guardian, Tatler and The Ecologist.
I returned to the UK in 1998 and I am now based in a village in Somerset from where I mainly concentrate on European travel-writing and photo features. Over five weeks In 2004, a Holy Year, I walked/photographed the Camino de Santiago, the entire length of the Camino Frances from the French border in the Pyrenees across northern Spain to Santiago in Galicia. I travelled as light as I could with only a daypack, with most of the weight coming from my eighty rolls of film, and a tripod I had attached to it. I carried two Canon cameras slung over my shoulders. Happy times. The photo features from this trip have been published worldwide including Geographical and Japan Airlines in-flight magazines. I have returned to Santiago on a regular basis andin 2007 I designed and published through a major printing company in Santiago,Spain a set of twelve postcards on El Camino de Santiago. These postcards are available through several shops in Santiago, direct from me via my contact page, or through either Confraternity of St.James CSJ's online bookshop or ebay.
I am usually available for all kinds of photographic work including overseas assignments, or within the Somerset, Dorset, Wiltsire region. Should you have a particular photographic need, would like to license a digital file or purchase a print of an image from this website please get in touch.
