Archidiocesis de Santiago de Compostela. The most recent information on the number of pilgrims receiving compostelas. Figures broken down into each month, nationality, gender and profession. Site Spanish only. The annual number receiving the compostela is now over 100,000 (in 2006 100,377) the first time in modern times, apart from Holy Years, such high numbers have been reached. The Camino Frances is by far the most popular route, but the percentage of those arriving in Santiago having walked this route has fallen in the last year from around 90% to 82%, as pilgrims opt for a quieter route and/or walk a different route having previously walked the Camino Frances. More than half of the walkers arriving in Santiago to collect their compostela are Spanish, the next ranked in terms of nationality are Italians- the highest ranked being unsurprisingly mainly from Europe, but with considerable numbers travelling from USA, Canada, and Brazil.
